Administration urges people to follow COVID appropriate behaviors in letter and spirit

Port Blair, June 18: The Secretary (IP&T), Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh addressing the media persons on COVID-19 status in the Islands held in the conference hall of IP&T here this evening said that the sudden spurt in the number of COVID cases in isles is due to the detection of COVID cases in Little Andaman Island.

This has contributed towards the surge in the overall tally of active cases in Isles which, the Secretary said, was showing a decline in the past few days. He appealed to the people to restrict their movement. The Secretary once again urged the people to follow COVID appropriate behaviors in letter and spirit and help A&N Administration to arrest the spread of corona virus, minimize positive cases in A&N Islands.

The Secretary further disclosed that during the RT-PCR conducted on 315 incoming passengers who arrived here yesterday by flight, one positive case have been detected despite their carrying RT-PCR report from mainland. He further informed that 3 flights with 447 passengers arrived today and the RT-PCR reports are awaited. He also stated that during the RAT conducted on 146 passengers proceeding to N&M Andaman at Ferrargunj, 1 positive case has been detected. He said, that today till 3 pm, 380 beneficiaries were vaccinated in South Andaman District, out of which, 352 were in the age group of 18-44 and the rest were above 45 plus age group.

The Director, ANIIMS, Dr. A K Mandal disclosed that 13 COVID positive patients are presently undergoing treatment in the Hospital. Today, 3 COVID patients were discharged. He further informed that out of the 13 patients, 9 patients are on Oxygen support and no patient on ventilator, he added.

The Deputy Director, G.B Pant Hospital, Dr. Amitabha De informed that in the three COVID Care Centres functioning in Port Blair, 1 new patient was admitted today and 1 patient was discharged. Altogether, 9 patients are presently being taken care of in these three COVID Care Centres while in COVID Care Centre Wimberlygunj, altogether, 6 patients are admitted, he added.
