Port Blair, Jun 09: MV Sindhu has been made ready to sail for any emergency requirements but no sailing schedule has been declared as of now. According to sources the ship was inducted into service today in a very low key manner but later some officials said that the commissioning was not an official function. It is said that once situation normalizes, the ship will be commissioned in a grand manner. Mean while no officer of DSS was ready to comment on this issue officially, for reasons unknown.
As per sources M V Sindhu is a highly advance Ship in terms of electric propulsion as this ship run on electric Generator. First time in India this kind of ship is introduced, sources said.
Apart from this, the vessel is equipped with all modern amenities for the passengers, good accommodation facilities, maximum space has been utilized. The vessel is having modern amenities like sofa seats; total passenger seating capacity is of 500 passengers at a time which is quite similar to MV Campbell Bay ship, it is learnt.
A senior official in DSS pointed out that altogether 61 crew member accommodation facility is there in MV Sindhu but due this pandemic minimum number of crew member has been appointed so far. As soon the ship operation will start, crew members will increase.
“The speed of the MV Sindhu is 16 knots and the average speed is 14.7 knots,” he pointed out.
The Ship is presently commanded by Captain Abdul Salam, who was also the first captain of MV Campbell Bay Ship.
