Port Blair, Jun 08: The Secretary IP&T Mr. S K Singh today COVID-19 cases are coming down in double digit, which is a good sign. “I think it is good sign and hopefully this continues for some more time, situation is improving” he said.
While addressing a COVID-19 media briefing in the conference hall of IP&T, the Secretary Mr. Singh said that on 10th of June 2021 a ship has been scheduled for standard passengers of Little Andaman, the ship MV Kalighat will sail in evening from Port Blair and will reach at Hutbay around 05:00 AM.
“Standard passengers will be allowed to board the ship, RT-PCR Test has been started from today. The passengers who are medically in critical state or need medical emergency, only those passengers will be allowed to travel from Hutbay to Port Blair and no movement is allowed for normal passengers,” he added.
About the COVID-19 positive cases in the islands the Secretary disclosed that three flights with 271 passengers arrived at Port Blair Airport and all passengers have undergone RT-PCR test. He further informed that 152 persons (travelers) bound for N&M Andaman were tested at Ferrargunj out of which none of them was tested COVID-19 positive.
He further pointed out that yesterday (Monday) among 358 passengers, nine were found COVID-19 positive and results for today’s RT-PCR is awaited.
About vaccination drive, the Secretary informed that today altogether 376 eligible beneficiaries got vaccinated. In which 33 beneficiaries were of age group above 45 year old and 343 were beneficiaries of age group above 18-44 year old who got there first dose of vaccine.
Later the Deputy Director GB Pant Hospital, Dr. Amitabha De said that 02 new COVID patients were admitted today in G.B. Pant Hospital and 01 patient got discharged. With this, the number of corona positive patients in Hospital is 38. Out of the 38 patients, 25 are on Oxygen support and none of the patient is on ventilator.
Further Dr. De pointed out that one new admission and one discharge was reported at COVID Care Centers and the number of patients in the COVID Care Centers is 10. At Wimberlygunj COVID Care Center 02 patients are admitted till date.
