Port Blair, May 31: The lockdown in South Andaman District has been extended for next seven days from 1st of June to 7th of June 2021, the Secretary IP&T Mr. SK Singh today informed.
Addressing a COVID-19 media briefing in the conference hall of IP&T, the Secretary of IP&T Mr. S K Singh said that today altogether three flights with 412 passengers arrived at Port Blair Airport and all of them undergone RTPCR test, for which results are awaited. He said that at Ferrargunj 43 persons (travelers) bound for N&M Andaman were tested and none of them were found COVID-19 positive. The secretary further pointed out that yesterday (Sunday) among 501 passengers 6 of them were found COVID-19 positive.
About vaccination drive the Secretary informed that today 435 eligible beneficiaries got vaccinated out of which 355 were of 18-44 age group and 80 were of 45 and above age group.
“Administration is closely monitoring the situation, particularly on Sunday large number of people were out for shopping and the way people violated the norms and CAB, they must understand that we are facing a pandemic it is not a time to enjoy, the battle is still going on against Corona Virus”, the Secretary pointed out. He also urged the public to follow Covid Appropriate Behavior and minimize their movement during this pandemic. “If the behavior of people is not changed then administration might go for a complete lockdown”, he added.
The Deputy Director GB Pant Hospital, Dr. Amitabha De said that today 05 person got admitted at GB Pant Hospital and 02 got discharged, altogether 69 patients are admitted in GB Pant Hospital in which 55 patients are on oxygen support and 04 are on ventilator.
Dr. De further informed that today 02 patients got discharged from COVID Care Centers and total 13 patients are still admitted. About Wimberlygunj COVID Care Center he said that total 06 patients are admitted there as of now.
