Port Blair, May 19: The Secretary of IP&T, Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh today said that the A & N administration is putting its best efforts to contain the spread of deadly corona virus in these Islands. He said that doctors in Andaman are working round the clock in this pandemic, and some are getting infected. “Although there is a high risk of getting infected, everyone is working extremely hard and doing their part,” he said.
Addressing a press conference today in the conference hall of IP&T, the Secretary IP&T Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh expressed his gratitude towards all doctors of these Islands who are working very hard and urged public to follow the Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB) strictly.
Talking about the COVID-19 situation in these Islands, the Secretary informed that 03 flights with 246 passengers arrived today at Port Blair Airport and during the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on these passengers, none of them was found COVID-19 positive. He further said that 85 persons (travelers) bound for N&M Andaman were also tested at Ferrargunj out of whom 05 were found Covid positive.
About vaccination drive, the Secretary informed that today the vaccination of 18-44 year age group has started in these Islands and altogether 410 eligible beneficiaries got vaccinated, which consisted of 125 beneficiaries of age group above 45 year old and 285 beneficiaries of age group above 18-44 year old.
Later the Deputy Director GB Pant Hospital, Dr. Amitabha De said that at present 90 patients are there at GB Pant Hospital among which 12 are newly admitted and 08 got discharged, 70 patients are on oxygen support and 03 patients are on ventilators, the Deputy Director added.
“Total altogether 25 patients are admitted in Covid Care Centers, in which 07 were newly admitted whereas 08 patients got discharged after recovery, and at Wimberlygunj Covid Care Center total 11 patients are admitted, out of which 02 are newly admitted whereas 02 patients got discharged after recovery,” he pointed out.
Dr. De said that during the first wave of COVID-19 the serious complication cases use to be very less, but now second wave of COVID-19, the number of serious complication cases are more.
