Port Blair, May 17: The District Child Protection Unit (South Andaman) is constantly monitoring all the Child Care Institutions and ensuring that the SOP’s needed to be adhered for the safety of the children are strictly followed with respect to the COVID-19 protocols. With respect to the health of the children at Child Care Institutions, one Doctor from the PHC falling within the jurisdiction of the respective CCI has been entrusted to provide medical care to the children by visiting once in a week.
Proper sanitization of the Institution is taken care off from time to time. Various activities are conducted for the children of the CCI such as Yoga, Meditation and Deep breathing exercises, to keep the children psychologically fit. Competitions like quiz and drawing are conducted to keep the children calm and stress free amidst COVID-19 and special therapy is conducted by the professionals for the children as and when required.
Apart from this, the District Administration also ensures the welfare of all the children, who are in distress, due to his/her parents suffering from COVID-19 or if the child is orphaned due to the demise of parent or is left without any parental care or is in need of care and protection.
The Chairman, DCPU/Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman has informed that any orphaned child devoid of parental care cannot be adopted illegally and if required, child may be placed in Child Care Institutions under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act 2015.
