Port Blair, Oct 19: The first Digital Service of Andaman Cable Network was launched by the Director General of Police, Mr S. B. S. Deol this afternoon. Speaking on the occasion the DGP lauded the Andaman Cable Network for this achievement.
Mr Deol, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, said that his father was among one of the first people to bring Radiogram and looking at that he had thought that science cannot be developed more than this.
“Things are going ahead and I am glad to see island is also going ahead with science, people in these Islands may be 98 percent of them have never went out of these islands and it’s a very good development for them, I wish good luck to the ACN and wish that more and more technical advancement hits these Islands,” Mr Deol added.
Earlier, Mr G. Dinakaran the co-partner of ACN welcomed the Chief Guest and the gathering and briefed that digitalization of cable TV has been made mandatory by the Government of India. From last 20 years cable TV was relayed in analog mode, but in analog mode it is not possible to telecast more than 100 channels,” Mr. Dinakaran said.
Mr Dinakaran also clarified some issues about the high cost of the set top box and said that ANC has only ordered MPac 4 HD because channel broadcasters have already switched to MPac 4, and each cost us Rs 2100.
“4300 set top boxes have already arrived after ordering it four months back, we didn’t want to be behind the schedule so that we can meet the deadline,” Mr Dinakaran added.
Further Mr Dinakaran also added that there is some advantages that ACN will take back the set top boxes if anyone is transferred to other Islands or for some other purposes, there is one year guarantee for each of the set top boxes.
Totally 300 channels one can watch by paying an amount of Rs. 350 inclusive of all taxes and the cost of the set top box will be Rs 2200.
