Port Blair, Feb 21: CITU has demanded to fill up all the vacant posts in Andaman and Nicobar Administration to provide job to unemployed educated local youths. In a letter sent to the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, Mr. B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar State Committee drawn the kind attention of the Chief Secretary to the grave situation prevailing in these islands due to the growing unemployment among the educated local youths. He said that the conventional private sector is dwindling in the islands due to various factors. CITU told the Chief Secretary that with no visible initiative in the IT sector, the technically qualified youths are a most demoralized lot. Except the recent initiative taken by the Administration to develop certain islands, that too under the PPP mode, in the tourism sector, no tangible efforts are in the sight to provide job to the educated local youths, he said.
Expressing CITU’s concern, Chandrachoodan stated that hundreds of educated boys and girls are added to the army of unemployed youths in the islands every year, but the Administration and the central government has not taken any step to provide job even to a fraction of such unemployed youths. Thousands of posts of various categories are lying vacant in various departments under the A & N Administration and no efforts are made to fill up these posts by the concerned departments, he said. If these vacant posts are filled up in phased manner, hundreds of local youths will get job in government sector. CITU demanded suitabe directions to be issued to the concerned departments to fill up these vacancies in a time-bound manner .
CITU requested the Chief Secretary to consider this matter with all seriousness and issue necessary directions to the authorities concerned to fill up all the vacant posts so that the educated unemployed youths of these islands will get a job in government service which will be of immense relief to hundreds of families.
