Port Blair, Feb 09: The NHIDCL has started the work for construction of four minor concrete bridges in South Andaman region to replace four existing Bailey bridges in Andaman Trunk Road. Out of these four Bailey Bridges one is situated at Sippighat are, and one at Joda Kilan area while other two are situated inside Jarawa Tribal Reserve area.
Sources in NHIDCL told Andaman Sheekha that the work for construction of all four bridges have started and within six months all four concrete bridges will be ready to replace the existing bailey bridges.
Since last several decades these four bailey bridges of ATR have played a major role in providing connectivity but it has also been observed that due to frequent need to repair these bridges often traffic in ATR got disrupted for several days.
Hence it was decided to replace these bailey bridges with concrete bridge and the work was handed over to NHIDCL along with ATR upgradation work.
