Port Blair, Jan 19: Following strike by Cargo Vehicle owners at Port Blair, the shopkeepers and residents of Great Nicobar are now fearing that cargo loading in MV Nancowry, which is about to sail for Campbell Bay on 22 January 2021, might not happen smoothly.
Hence they fear that this might cause shortage of essential commodities in Great Nicobar Island, which is completely dependent on ships for essential commodities, vegetables and food items etc.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. K C Murugan the Secretary of Small Traders’ Association Campbell Bay today said that people of Great Nicobar are already facing shortage in supply of essential items due to reduced frequency of ships. “Already there is shortage of onions, potatoes and poultry items in Campbell Bay area and if in this sailing cargo is not loaded in MV Nancowry then situation will become worse here,” he added.
The traders and residents of Great Nicobar are requesting the Administration to make sure that sufficient amount of cargo is loaded in MV Nancowry, which is about to sail for Campbell Bay on 22nd January 2021, so that people of the Island do not face any hardship in coming days.
