Port Blair, Jan 18: While India is expecting to get 5G connectivity in coming future and entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands are enjoying high speed internet, far-flung Islands of Katchal and Teressa continue to remain in remoteness due to very poor telecom connectivity.
As per details since last several weeks Katchal Island remains disconnected from rest of country due to no telecom network and similarly Teressa Island is also facing similar connectivity issues.
This is not the first time when Katchal Island faced such telecommunication blackouts, earlier also Katchal and Teressa Islands remained disconnected from rest of India for several weeks in several occasions.
Recently Andaman Sheekha tried to contact the CGM of BSNL to know the reason behind the issue but no satisfactory reply was received from the side of CGM BSNL.
Today Andaman Sheekha spoke to the DC of Nicobar District Mr. Kishore Kshirsagar Lakshman to know why these two Islands are always facing serious connectivity issues.
The Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar District today said that he is aware of the issue and the District Administration of Nicobar District is continuously taking up this issue with BSNL and also the Department of IT, A & N Administration, which is the nodal agency.
Not only this, he assured that the District Administration is also taking up this issue with concerned ministry.
“We are providing all kind of assistance to the BSNL to ensure that connectivity problems of Katchal and Teressa are solved. Right for helping in getting Helicopter Tickets to arranging special ferry to take BSNL technicians to remote Islands or arranging transportation of heavy equipments in government vessels all assistance is provided but still this problem remains unsolved. The BSNL must post some technical staffs in these Islands to solve this problem,” the DC added.
