Port Blair, Nov 29: The Workshop on “Peer Supporter for dealing with Covid 19 Stress” was organized by ISMAT(Islanders Social Movement for Awareness and Training) – a women’s initiative, on 21st November 2020 at Islamic Guidance Center , Goal Ghar , Port Blair. Around 30 participants from various walks of life participated along with ISMAT members.
Dr. Shirin Jadwet , President ISMAT gave the Welcome address. The First Session was by Dr. Avijit Roy, Nodal Officer (covid) for A & N Islands on the topic “Covid 19 – Its Physiological aspect, Myths, Reality, progression, prevention and its changing face”. This was followed by a question answer session. Dr. Avijit gave a detailed lecture about Covid 19, its various forms, propagation and mutation.
He threw light on the treatment to be followed , post covid care, what to do in case of emergency . He also gave insights about the usage of masks, personal hygiene and the vaccine. The second Session was by Dr. Mitesh Behari ,Consultant Neuro-psychiatrist & de-addiction specialist, from the Health 4 U Multi-Specialty Clinic on the topic Psychological Effects of covid 19, How to counsel – tips and tricks followed by a question answer session.
Dr. Mitesh highlighted the phsycological effects of Covid. What to say and what not to say, various techniques of counseling children and elderly and when to seek help. He stressed upon how empathy and not sympathy will help the person going through depression or anxiety better.
The sessions were very informative and very well received by the participants. The Workshop concluded by Ms. Rasheeda Peer, General Secretary , giving away the vote of thanks.
