Port Blair, Nov 20: As a prelude to NCC day events, NCC Cadets of the Islands undertook ‘Tree Plantation Drive’ at JNRM College. Principal JNRM Mr JD Singh, Capt Vijay Kumar Trivedi, Commanding Officer NO 1 (AN) NU NCC and Col Vivekananda, CO NO 1(AN) Indep Inf Coy NCC led the drive by planting trees. Capt Vijay Kumar Trivedi CO NO 1 (AN) NU NCC, said that ‘Tree Plantation is a first step towards protecting environment and is a necessary effort towards reduction of air pollution and Carbon Prints’. In the present ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, we need to focus more on efforts to clean our environment. ANOs and Care Taker of JNRM guided cadets to plant trees in organized manner. Col Vivekanand CO No. 1 (an) Indep Inf Coy motivated Cadets to continue sustained efforts towards tree plantation. He also intimated that Cadets as part of their syllabus are taught about tree plantation and environment protection.
Captain Vijay Kumar Trivedi CO No.1 (AN) NU NCC said that NCC Cadets in the islands are groomed to imbibe this quality as ‘Selfless service’ since ‘We plant trees, not for ourselves but for future generations’. He further intimated that the cadets are made aware of the type of trees to be planted to promote growth of native ecosystem and how tree plantation could be used as Geo Engineering Technique to remove CO2 from the system , thus combat environmental issues. ‘Sustained efforts in tree plantation can make our environment in the planet, better to live in, He added. NCC Cadets of these islands enthusiastically participated in the drive.
