Port Blair, November 09: Suffering due to insufficient water supply, mobile network issues, residents of the Tushnabad region expressed their resentment when representatives of only 06 departments attended the Gram Sabha meeting out of 51 line departments today.
As per reports, the Panchayat Secretary of the region invited almost 51 line departments to attend the Gram Sabha meeting today to listen to the issues of the public and plan steps to sort out those issues.
Although some major line departments like Andaman Public Works Department, Electricity, Agriculture, Veterinary, Industries, and STS attended the meeting; according to the Ex-Upadhyaksh, South Andaman Zilla Parishad, Mr. Anand Amrit Raj nothing much was finalized.
“The APWD continued to give excuses and assurances but haven’t given any timeline to when the water supply that is twice a week for 20 minutes will be supplied regularly,” said Mr. Raj.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha over the phone, Mr. Anand said that last time in the Special Gram Sabha only few departments took part. “We registered a written complaint to the Secretary RD, nothing happened, to whom we will raise our grievances and when the basic needs will be sorted out in the village?” questioned Mr. Raj.
He also said that the BSNL network is very poor in the village and the officials of BSNL did not attend the GS, making is impossible to raise this crucial issue during Gram Sabha.
Mr. Raj further said that due to today’s failure of the line departments in attending the meeting has irked the villagers, hence all the villagers have decided that if the water issues and the network issues are not sorted out within a week, all will hit the road to agitate.
