Baratang, November 03: A large area of Baratang region, which has been declared as Containment Zone since 22nd October, 2020 after two police personnel were tested COVID-19 positive has caused an enormous problems for many. People inside containment zone are now unable to go to Port Blair for treatment or even to attend urgent family needs at Baratang as well as at Port Blair.
The Ex-Upadhyaksh, North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad, Mr. G Kurma Rao has meanwhile alleged that the two police personnel who were tested positive recently were declared negative during re-examination and discharged from the Port Blair, GB Pant COVID care center on the 31st of October 2020. Hence many now questions that why the Containment Zone has not been lifted yet.
He further stated that he raised the issue with the District Administration, North, and Middle Andaman informing the problems faced by the residents because of the containment zone, to which he was assured by the senior authorities that the containment will be lifted from the area in a day or two. Although senior officers in the North and Middle Andaman District Administration has clarified that such claims of lifting containment zone in two days, is just a speculation.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted the District Commissioner, North, and Middle Andaman, Dr. Angel Bhati Chauhan, to know the fact in this regard, she said “Firstly, I will examine the situation for two-three days and if the trend is found declining we will give certain relaxations, we won’t lift up the containment at an instance.”
