Port Blair, Nov 03: At about 10.08 AM today a fire incident was reported at Fire Control Room that a major fire broke out on the first floor of CCS Ltd. at Bathubasthi. Immediately water tender from Fire Stations Garacharma was sent to spot.
For additional support water tenders from FS Aberdeen, Marine, Chatham and Haddo Wharf were also requisitioned for fire fighting. Simultaneously Water Bowsers and Water Mist and additional man power were also dispatched to the scene of fire to save the property, which is worth nearly 65 lakhs, as per sources. The fire was brought under total control by about 1.00 PM.
The fire broke out from one of the four staff quarters of CCS, which were located on the first floor of the wooden building. All four quarters were gutted while the CCS shop on the ground floor was saved by fire fighters. Although due to water, some commodities kept inside the shop, got fully damaged.
As per details, property loss of nearly 25 lakhs was reported while properties worth 45 lakhs were saved, which includes gold ornaments and cash kept in the houses.
Insiders told Andaman Sheekha due to traffic congestion at Bhatubasti, the Fire Fighting became too difficult for the staffs of Fire Brigade today.
The cause of fire is under investigation by FSL team of Police, Fire Service and Electricity. CFO Mr. S.K.Meena led the Fire Fighters, IFB Mr. S.Kullu, IFB Mr. Edwin Fernandez, STO FS Aberdeen Mr. Shaibal Sinha, STO FS Garacharma Mr. Murgeshan and their staffs were the fire fighters.
