Port Blair, October 09: The employees of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation Limited (ANIIDCO), known for selling liquor in the Islands, are allegedly overcharging Rs 50-100 above the maximum retail price (MRP) per bottle, in some wine shops ,according to public.
Several complaints have been received by Andaman Sheekha in this regard. As per the tipplers, in many cases if a bottle costs Rs 260 and an amount of Rs 300 is paid to the vendor, customers never get back the balance.
According to the liquor buyers of the Diglipur region, per bottle, they have to pay Rs 50-100 extra, and only then they are given the bottle or else denied. Similar complaints are coming from different wine shops.
When contacted a Senior Officer (Liquor), ANIIDCO, he said that whoever faces such an issue while buying liquor, must call and lodge complaint regarding the same in the official number mentioned in the bill, so that immediate action can be taken. However customers allege that in many cases bills are also not given to them.
The Senior Officer of ANIIDCO said that there are CCTV cameras in every outlet of ANIIDCO Wine shops, but monitoring the video of the entire day is an arduous task to verify the complaint.
The Senior Manager also said that if they get a specific complaint from which outlet the customers are facing such an issue, they can conduct a surprise check on those outlets. He also urged the consumers who get cheated in the wine shop to instantly register a complaint to the Police in this regard.
