Port Blair, Sept 25: A newly constituted Social and Welfare Association, christened as ‘Clean City’, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, was inaugurated at a function held in the auditorium of Tagore Government College of Education (TGCE) here this evening. The First Lady of the Islands, Smt. Bhawanee Singh lit a ritual oil lamp to inaugurate the association.
Speaking on the occasion, the First Lady congratulated the Clean City Social and Welfare Organization for taking up such a noble initiative, which she said will benefit the entire Islands as the proposed activities of the association are very much relevant to the need of the Islands. Underscoring the need for generating awareness about the importance of keeping the surrounding neat and clean, she said people must be educated that the cleanliness initiatives which are being taken up is not for others, but for the benefits of all of us. Cleanliness of the surrounding is required for a healthy atmosphere leading to good health of the islanders, she said. These Islands are naturally beautiful and giving more importance to cleanliness and greenery will further add to its beauty, she said and extended her best wishes for the success of the endeavour taken up by the association.
In his address, the General Secretary of the Association, Shri S Shahul Hamid gave a detailed account of the proposed activities of the association. He said that awareness will be generated among all section of people especially among the student about issues such as healthy environment and social evil etc.
Earlier, the President, Clean City, Smt. Anuradha Raje welcomed the gathering while the function concluded with the vote of thanks, proposed by Smt. Komal Anand, Vice President of the association.
