Port Blair, Sep 25: Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC has requested the Lt Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands to enhance the salary of Guest Lecturers from Rs. 10,000/- to Rs. 25000/- per month.
In a letter addressed to the Lt Governor Mr Sharma stated that Colleges like Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkiya Mahavidyalaya, Mahatma Gandhi Government College ,Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Tagore College of Education, in Andaman and Nicobar Islands are mostly run by guest lecturers but they are paid only Rs. 10,000/- per month, keeping their financial problems aside they do their homework before coming to their respective classes and leave no stone unturned to quench the thirst of education to their students.
“As per the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Review Commission the Guest lecturers who possess the minimum qualifications for the post of an Assistant Professor should be paid Rs. 1000/- per lecture to a maximum of Rs. 25000/- per month, was accepted by the University Grant Commission in 2010 but then also no enhancement in the salary of Guest lecturers was made till date,”. Mr Sharma added.
