Port Blair, Aug 14: As many as 12 Assistant Professors who are working in Andaman College (ANCOL) on contract basis have not received their salary since March 2020 to till date.
During the time of Pandemic and Lockdowns, these Assistant Professors are finding it extremely difficult to run their family and pay room rents. “A few have already received warning from their landlords to vacate rented room due to delay in paying room rent,” said a family member of one such youth.
This is not the first time when salary of these Assistant Professors has been delayed, in last one year in other occasions also similar delays were reported.
When contacted, insiders in ANCOL told Andaman Sheekha that the file regarding release of salary for these Assistant Professors have been moved long back from the college but the file is moving very slow from one desk to another.
“The Lt. Governor has also cleared the file early this month but the file is reportedly struck in finance department,” said an insider, who does not want his name to be quoted.
The problem is that the process of file movement for salary for contractual workers takes so much time that these workers had to struggle for several months for salary multiple time in a year. Why can’t files, related to salary of contractual workers, are dealt on top ,priority after all kids and other family members of a family remain dependent on the earning member of the family, who become the ultimate sufferers.
