Port Blair, June 01: Mrs. Sampa Banerjee, the State President BJP Mahila Morcha & Member UTCPCR A&N Islands today met the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman and raised the issue of waiving off accommodation charges for Inter Island students. During the meeting the DC reportedly assured to consider the lodging & boarding charges of poor and destitute students who are studying in mainland and reached Port Blair from Mainland via flight and got stranded at Port Blair due to non availability of the transport to inter island.
She also wrote a letter to the DC on this topic in which she mentioned that most of the students are either from poor back ground or they have exhausted their savings in long lockdown periods as they have already spent more than 2 months at Mainland on their own.
“As of now students are paying Rent 990/- for accommodation and Rs 100/more for fooding per day, which is bringing more hardship for them during present financial crunch,” she added.
