Port Blair, Sept 18: National Mission on Food Processing has been commenced in Andaman & Nicobar Islands w.e.f 1st April, 2012 with the support of Ministry of Food Processing Industry, Govt. of India, New Delhi .The Directorate of Industries will be implementing all schemes covered under National Mission on Food Processing in Andaman & Nicobar Islands during 2012-13.
Under the National Mission on Food Processing, the Department of Industries will be implementing a centrally sponsored scheme namely “Scheme for Technology Up-gradation/ Setting up/Modernization/Expansion of Food Processing Industries”. The scheme envisages extending the financial assistance for setting up of new food processing units as well as Technological Up-gradation and Expansion of existing units in the country.
All implementing agencies/organizations such as Govt./PSUs/ Joint Sector/NGOs/Cooperatives/Private Sector/individuals engaged in setting up/expansion/modernization of food processing units would be eligible for financial assistance under the scheme. Sectors in food processing such as fruits & vegetables, milk products, meat, poultry, fishery, cereal/other consumer food products, oil seeds products, rice milling, flour milling, pulse processing and such other agri-horticultural sectors including food flavours and colours, oleoresins, spices, coconut, mushrooms and hops will be covered under the Scheme.
The scheme envisages financial assistance to food processing units in the form of grant- in-aid @ 33.33% of the cost of plant and machinery and technical civil works subject to a maximum of Rs.75.00 lakhs.
The activities of aerated water, packaged drinking water and soft drinks will not be considered for financial assistance under the Scheme.

Applications are invited from eligible and interested individuals/firms aspiring to set up new Food processing units for assistance under the scheme.
