Port Blair, May 14: The Chairperson Port Blair Municipal Council Mr. N.K.Udhaya Kumar in a written letter to the Home Minister of India has highlighted the issue of the stranded students and Islanders in the different states of the Country. As many students prefer to move to mainland for preparing themselves for getting admission in premier Medical / Engineering Institutes of national repute. This has motivated our student’s from the islands to join the bandwagon and hundreds of student’s move every year to different part of India.
Now due to lock down to prevent the threat of COVID-19 these students are stranded in different parts of the Country especially in Rajasthan (Kotta), New Delhi, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Pondicherry etc. Many states and UTs as they rescued stranded students of their respective states and UTs by arranging transportation exclusively for students belonging to respective states. This has created let down feeling among the student’s as well as parents by their home states and are facing mental stress and agony as all the students are living separately in different hostels and mostly alone.
The Civic Chief has requested the Home Minister to kindly intervene in this matter and issue necessary directions to concerned States to prepare a mechanism in coordination with A&N Administration to transport the stranded students and Islanders from their respective states to A&N Islands by ship or by flight and vice versa at the earliest.
