Mayabunder, April 26: Andaman Sheekha recently carried news highlighting problems faced by Guest Lecturers of Mahatma Gandhi Government College Mayabunder for deduction on their salary for the period of lockdown, however, the matter was taken up promptly by the administration and now instructions have been issued to the College authorities to release the salary for the overall March month bringing big relief for the Guest lecturers.
As per reports, the Principal MGGC has received instructions in this regard following which he has instructed the Account sections of the college to prepare the bills for payment to Guest Lecturers from 20th March to 31st March 2020 also.
However, it’s a big relief for the Guest Lecturers but they are still unhappy as some days have been deducted from the payment of March 2020 which are 17th, 18th and 19th.
As per the Guest Lecturers, all the colleges coming under the Andaman administration have given full salary to their Guest Lecturers and excluded only Sundays, but here, the MGGC college has applied it only on the days of the lockdown which starts from 20th March.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted the Principal, MGGC, Dr. Prabhuram, he said that as per the Lt Governor’s instruction the shut down order to the college was given from 16th March 2020, but though some Guest Lecturers served on the same day, hence, he gave the requisition for those till 16th March 2020, which has already been disbursed.
“The Guest Lecturers has not served for 17th, 18th and 19th March and hence, those days has been deducted from their salaries and since 20th March 2020 the lockdown was ordered by the Andaman administration on papers and Guest Lecturers were told to work from home from 20th March 2020, therefore, the salaries will be paid to them from 20th March 2020,” the Principal said.
This decision of the Principal has however made some Guest Lecturers upset, who claim that the Principal favours their Guest Lecturers who are in his good books following which he releases pay to those till 16th March 2020 and others who are not in his good books were paid only till 13th March 2020.
