Port Blair, Apr 12: Keeping in view of financial crisis and hardships being faced by the various poor and daily earning persons residing in A&N Islands in this distressed situation of COVID-19, Shri Kuleeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands has taken up the matter with the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands on 10.04.2020 urging him to consider for extending financial assistances of Rs.5000/- and free ration to all unorganized sector daily wagers for next three months as done in the other States and Union Territories like fishermen, agriculture labour, street vendors, small tea and pan shops, persons working in various traders/merchants shops, bus, car, jeep and various categories of vehicles involved in the tourism and local transport, cargo transportation, public carrier etc., auto rickshaw drivers, security guards, small boat workers in tourism industries, coconut vendors, bamboo labours, automobile garage workers, carpenters, cook and waiters, cobblers, barbers, dhobi, tinsmiths, blacksmiths, plumbers, workers in mills, food vendors, domestic workers, vegetable vendors drivers of various truck, van etc., MGNREGA workers in the rural area.
He also requested the Lt. Governor to provide free ration to all the PDS card holders in the Islands for the next three months seeing the hardships faced by the general public due to COVID-19.
