Port Blair, Apr 05: Today, all the religious heads of Nicobar District were briefed about the precautions that are needed to be taken in order to contain the spread of COVID-19. The religious heads were further told to complement the efforts of Police by ensuring that no one comes to temples/ mosques/churches/Gurudwara for prayers or any other purposes and in times of funeral, not more than 20 people will assemble. Separate meetings were conducted in all the police stations of Nicobar District. Details of persons quarantined were also shared with them and were told to keep surveillance on them at village level. All the heads of religious institutions pledged to extend their support and cooperation to the Nicobar Police to help contain the spread of COVID-19 in our islands.
The Nicobar Police has strengthened its drive against unnecessary movement of vehicles and has taken cognizance and booked around 39 vehicles in the Nicobar district for lock down violation. Picketing and patrolling is being extensively done by the police department to aware the general public about “Social Distancing” and precautions to be taken against COVID-19. Announcements through loud hailers are also being done in order to cover each and every village. All the tribal chief captains have been personally met and awared by the SP, Dy. SP and SHO’s in their respective police stations. In the remote parts of the district like Chowra, Afra Bay, Makachua, the general public is awared by covering each and every home in the island.
The Nicobar District Police has always been proactive in crisis management and the efforts are lauded by the public in general.
