Port Blair, March 19: The School of Inter-Disciplinary and Trans-Disciplinary Studies of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a new programme-Certificate Programme in Solid Waste management (CSWM). The Solid Waste Management programme is commencing from July 2020 academic session. The programme will provide an overview of the solid waste management situation covering key elements of the waste management system, with its, environmental, social, financial and institutional aspects. Besides understanding the challenges the learners will learn about appropriate and sustainable solutions including suitable waste management policy issues. The programme aims at generating man power to tackle the growing problems of waste generation and finding optimum solutions. This will give an insight into the characteristics and nature of various kinds of waste, its effect on human health and natural ecosystem and socio economic consequences of waste generation. The programme will provide learners with the necessary means to develop the capacity to carry out independent waste management procedures. In addition, learners will be well equipped to analyze and segregate different types of waste materials and will be able to propose sustainable solutions.
The six months Certificate Programme in Solid Waste management is offered in Hindi medium, Fees Rs. 3600/- consists of 3 courses namely Introduction to Solid Waste, Municipal, Agricultural, Industrial and Hazardous Waste Management and Plastic, Electronic, Biomedical and Construction and Demolition Waste. 10+2 from a recognized Board are eligible for the programme.
