Port Blair, Mar 08:From June 2020, the Port Management Board is all set to start the operations of ‘Ship to Ship Port’ in ‘Port Meadows’ a place in Shelter Track, Havelock that has been notified as a port and for which the PMB has completed all formalities.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha recently, the Harbormaster, PMB, Mr. Ishwar Singh said that an agreement has already been signed between Matsya Shipping Port Private Limited, in this regard. He said that the company will take over the Port Meadows from June and in the same month Transshipment movement will start.
“Number of big vessels will start coming here after this initiative and they will transfer cargo to their sister concerned vessel and then that vessel will transport cargo to nearby ports like Kolkata et cetera,” explained the Harbormaster.
Harbormaster added that the start of ‘Ship to Ship Port’ in the Islands will bring in a lot of job opportunities for the Island youths.
