Port Blair, Feb 19: A major bushfire was reported in the woods near Attam Pahad area this morning at 03:00am. The fire in the forest was not under total control yet (till the last report poured in) and 03 fire stations that responded to the call were still keeping eye on the ground.
As per reports, the fire spread to around 4-5 hectares of land in the forest near Attam Pahad.
The matter of concern is, to take control over the fire authority’s deputed personnel of 03 fire stations mainly because there is an acute shortage of staffs in the Fire Services, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Bush fire is common during the dry season in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and hence, at the same time if any other fire accident occurs there will be a disastrous situation.
Authorities must look into this matter at the earliest and recruit required staffs for Fire Services.
