Port Blair, Oct 04: The Police Training School, Prothrapur, A&N Islands conducted National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), New Delhi sponsored 03 (three) days training on “Social Defence Issues” on 28.09.2019, 30.09.2019 & 01.10.2019, for in-service Police officers of A&N Police from the rank of ASI to Inspector under the overall supervision of Principal, Police Training School, Prothrapur Smti. Usha Rangnani, IPS. During the training programme, faculty members from various departments and A&N Police including Shri. Anant Mittal, IPS, SP (Security), Ms. Sandhya Swamy, IPS, SDPO (SA), Dr. N. Rajavel, HOD, Associate Professor, JNRM, Dr. K. Venkateshan, Associate Professor, HOD, JNRM, Shri. Michael Raj, DANIPS, Vice Principal, PTS, Inspector K. Joju, SHO, Anti Corruption Unit, Inspector D. Jagdishwar Rao, Inspector Special Branch (CID), Inspector Abdul Sajid, CDI (PTS) and Inspector Mohd. Elias, PS CCS delivered informative lectures on various topics like Provisions of different Legislations including NDPS Act 1985, Role of Police in prevention and Control of drug abuse, Problems of Destitute (Beggary) and related State Legislation and role Police, Role of Media a network of Social Defence particularly Drug abuse and Elderly issue, Nature, Classifications, types and identification of Narcotics drugs and Psychotropic substances, Principles of addiction treatment, counseling & relapse prevention, behavioral changes towards healthy sober life, Crime against Elderly, Community policing for elderly people and role of Police on prevention and control of crime against senior citizens, Salient Features of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007, Magnitude, Policy and programme on Old Age Care. During the training programme, the participating Police officers also paid visit to Old Age Home Ferrargunj and interacted with the senior citizens. Altogether, 34 Police Personnel of various Police Stations/Units of A&N Police participated in the training programme. This type of training programme will be definitely useful to the police officers while dealing with cases related to elderly people and other social issues.The aforesaid 03 days Training Programme was inaugurated by Dr. R. Giriraj, Dy. Director, National Institute of Social Defence, New Delhi on 28/09/2019 in presence of Shri. Ankit Chauhan, IPS, Shri. Michael Raj, DANIPS, Vice Principal, PTS, senior officers of A & N Police and SHO’s of Port Blair headquarter area. Valediction of the training was conducted by Vice Principal, PTS. The course was coordinated by Inspr. Girish Kumar, Inspector (Admn.) & Chief Law Instructor of Police Training School, Prothrapur under the supervision of Vice Principal, PTS.
