Port Blair, Aug 27: Several Stretches of roads in South Andaman region are in pathetic shape these days giving horrible time to the residents and daily commuters of the area. Some of the road stretches viz Road from Hope Town to Bambooflat jetty, Bambooflat to Wimberlygunj and Road from Bambooflat to Ferrargunj via Andha Beda are in such a bad shape that one has to find road between potholes. Surprisingly all these roads are under APWD and perhaps this is the reason why APWD has earned such bad reputation in road construction among Islanders over the years.
Meanwhile former Chairperson of Zilla Parishad, Ms. Mariyam Bibi has requested the Administration to immediately repair these road stretches, considering the hardship being faced by public of the region. Meanwhile, on her request the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, along with SDM, AE- APWD and EE APWD, recently visited these road stretches. During the visit Ms. Mariyam Bibi and other PRI members were also present with the team. The Deputy Commissioner, after inspecting the road, reportedly asked the APWD to carryout repair works. The APWD officials however told the Deputy Commissioner that the tendering process for the repair of the road is already over but the execution of the work will be done after monsoon season. Till then the APWD has agreed repair the potholes so that public of the area, get some relief.
