Port Blair, Aug 17: Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas will be celebrated on 20 August, 2012 in these Islands alongwith the entire nation with a view to creating awareness about the use of Renewable Energy. The week-long programme will have various competitions such as essay writing, drawing/painting and elocution in schools and colleges organized to create awareness among students. The valedictory function this year will be on 23rd August, 2012 since 20th August is public holiday. The programme will start at 0730 hours by Director of Education, A&N Administration flagging off the rallies of school students wearing T-Shirts & Caps from Netaji Stadium via Clock Tower and will terminate at Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School auditorium Port Blair. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration will be the chief guest at the valedictory function to be held at Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School auditorium on 23rd August, 2012. The winners of various competitions organized will also be awarded prizes by the chief guest on 23rd August, 2012.
