Baratang, Feb 24: It seems that the dream of lakhs of people in Andaman and Nicobar Islands to see a bridge over Middle Strait will now soon be materialized as the forest clearance works in Baratang Islands is almost over.
Andaman Sheekha is proud to present the first pictures of the forest clearance works, which will surely bring a great sense of relief for people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Andaman Sheekha team visited the site today and saw that the forest clearance work from creek area of Nilambur to Oralkatcha village is almost over. Now the forest area on the other side of Middle Strait has to be cleared.
Another hurdle is some houses at Oralkatcha villages, which are build in revenue land and now will have to be vacated. The house owners are worst affected as till now they have not received any official orders to vacate their houses however, they have been asked unofficially by some contractors to vacate.
Meanwhile the Zilla Parishad Member of Baratang Islands, Mr. Alagar Swamy has requested the Administration to provide adequate compensation and compensatory land to the families of Oralkatacha, who will have to be vacated for this mega project.
“Everybody understands that this project of building bridge over Middle Strait is of great importance for entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands but the Administration must not punish these few families, who will have to vacate their houses. They should be provided adequate compensation and compensatory land before they are asked to vacate,” Mr. Alagar Swamy told Andaman Sheekha today.
He said that he is with the families who will have to suffer the negative impact of this important project and he will continue to bat for their rights.
Meanwhile, a team of revenue department today visited Oralkatcha village and surveyed the area once again to clearly understand how much revenue area will have to vacated for this project.
