Nicober 23 Jan: Andaman and Nicobar State Social Welfare Board in Association with district Administration Car Nicobar, as part of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme, initiated a one month skill development training programme in Port Blair in the month of April 2018 to create trainers. In which, 20 girls from various islands of Nancowry, such as Campbell Bay, Katchal, Kamorta, Tressa etc., who were sent by the District Administration of Car Nicobar were provided residential training at Port Blair. Training was held in the area of development of coconut shell handicrafts, beauty and spa and development of Nicobari mat. Further, training programme was designed as trainers have to provide training to 400 girls at their respective islands. Following to this, trainers were went to their islands and provided taining to 380 girls during the months of May and June 2018.
As part of the skill development training programme under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Andaman and Nicobar State Social Welfare Board in Association with the office of Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry celebrated the National Girl Child Day on 23rd January, 2019. In the programme, certificates were distributed to 380 girls who completed training at their respective islands. And also, on account of this, Hodi race had been organized in which women also participated in the event. Trophies were presented to the winners in Hodi race Ms.Unicy & Brigit, Mary Apolus & Agita Sanjeev and Zubaida & Demar as 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. And also to promote sports among girls, a ‘girl achiever’ in the field of sports from Nancowry Ms.Indira has been felicitated on behalf of Andaman and Nicobar State Social Welfare Board.
During the occasion, as Chief Guest Dr.Poonam Arora, Chairperson of State Social Welfare Board highlighted the initiatives taken by the State Social Welfare Board in the direction of women empowerment, such as skill development activities, sensitization programmes and economic activities for women. During her address appreciated the efforts taken by the Assistant Commissioner Shri.Vinay Kumar Jindal and his staff in organizing such activities and working on need based of these islands. During the occasion, she explained about importance of indigenous activities such as Hodi race and tribal handicrafts. Further, Chairperson had wished the participants for future activities.
In the occasion, Commanding officer of Coast Guard, Shri.CK Singh, Chairperson Tribal Council, Nancowry Smt.Cicilia Jackallen, Captain, Kamorta, Shri.Aslam Mazid and Secretary & Accountant of Social Welfare Board were present.
