Port Blair, Jan 10: The protest at Brichgunj area demanding ban of quarry trucks on public road, continued even today.
Dozens and dozens of residents of Brichgunj and nearby areas today blocked trucks loaded with quarry materials, following which by afternoon quarry truck owners also blocked the main junction of Brichgunj by parking three quarry trucks, hence blocking entire traffic, to put pressure on Administration.
Later in the evening around 300 villagers were taken to DC office to talk to the DC, where the DC reportedly asked villagers not the block quarry loaded trucks or the villagers will be arrested tomorrow.
Villagers told Andaman Sheekha that they have court order, saying six wheeler trucks should not ply in Brichgunj area, but still DC did not listen to their plea.
The protesting villagers are demanding total ban on movement of quarry trucks from Brichgunj main road and alternate road for quarry trucks from Brookshabad area.
“We requested the DC to give it in writing if he orders the six wheeler trucks to ply in Brichgunj road but he did not give that order in writing. We will stop quarry trucks even tomorrow even if Administration arrests us,” said a villager of Brichgunj.
Recently several accidents have been reported at Brichgunj area, involving quarry trucks, which the villagers claim is an indication that how dangerous it would be to allow operation of quarry trucks in accident prone Brichgunj road.
