Port Blair, Jan 08: Nearly four accidents at the same location of Brichgunj’s Steep Road in last one year have raised serious alarm among the residents of the area. Surprisingly in most cases the accidents were involving heavy vehicles and last two accidents have been reported within last three days.
On 5th January 2019 morning at around 9:50 AM, a loaded cargo truck flipped over the steep slope of Brichgunj road and got stuck on the roadside drain near the District Jail.
Again on 7th January morning at around 8:40 AM, another cargo truck skidded off the road and got stuck closed to the road side drain near Shiv Mandir.
Yesterday after the second accident Smt. Vaishali Rani, Ward Councilor and residents of the area protested against the plying of heavy truck carrying Quarry Products from the said road, which is not fit for such operations and might result in bigger accidents tomorrow. The public also demanded to divert such heavily loaded trucks from any other road.
During the protest Tehsildar, Port Blair reportedly inspected the spot and heard the grievances of the villagers.
It is learnt that, today since morning staffs of Traffic unit and PS Pahargaon have been reportedly posted on the said road to check movement of 10 wheeler trucks and also movement of any heavy vehicles, with quarry materials, from the said road.
