Mayabunder, Jan 07: The Chotta Nagpuri Adivasi Community in Andaman & Nicobar Islands is celebrating Diamond Jubilee in these Islands. The Ranchi Association organized various programmes to mark this occasion at Netaji Ground at Mayabunder.
The Ranchi Community comprising people from Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and parts of Orissa are called Chotta Nagpuri Adivasi community, were brought to various islands to work and develop these Islands. The first group of people reportedly reached in 1918.
The Chief Guest on this occasion was Mr. Prabhu Dayal Baraik, a social worker from Jharkhand. Deputy Commissioner N & M Andaman Mr. Awanish Kumar, IAS was also presently during the cultural programme in the evening. Earlier in the afternoon a rally was carried out in the Mayabunder bazaar.
President of Ranchi Association A & N Islands, Mr. Nelson Tirkey, Ranchi Association, Port Blair, President Mrs. Meena Bai, Ranchi Association Mayabunder, President, Mr. Manojit Baraik and other members of the association also participated in this programme. About 2000 people from Diglipur to Baratang area participated in this celebration.
