Port Blair, Dec 27: A fishing dinghy from Hut Bay area reportedly capsized near South Bay Coast in the evening hours of 24 December 2018. According to late information received here the accident occurred because of sudden heavy wind and high waves, very close to the coastal area of South Bay.
As per reports, nine people were present onboard the dinghy, when it capsized. It is learnt that the fishermen of the big dinghy had loaded coconut while returning from Shoal Bay because of which they could not notice, sea water accumulating inside the dinghy, which is also said to be one of the reasons for this accident.
While seven people reached coast safely by swimming two other went missing half way to the coast. A search operation is being carried out for two missing fishermen. The area where the dinghy capsized, reportedly has heavy sea current.
Meanwhile a case of negligence has been registered against the dinghy operator by police. Further details are awaited.
