Port Blair, Nov 12: One youth of Birdline, namely Mr. Mahesh Kumar, Age 29 years S/o Late Dhanraj, drowned at sea in a beach attached to a private property, situated opposite to a Mosque near Rangachang.
The incident took place on 11th November, 2018 at 1600hrs. It is learnt that the youth had gone for a picnic with friends. Before coming back from the spot the youth climbed on a rock with two other friends for taking photographs, when he slipped from the rock because of the high waves and fell into the sea.
People contacted Police department within minutes and team of divers reached the spot with boat and scuba divers but due to high waves and current near the rocks, divers failed to commence search on 11th November, 2018.
However, continuous lookout is maintained by residents of Prothrapur, Birdline and Marine Police Team around the spot. Divers entered the sea to search for the youth at 1600hrs on 12th Nov after the sea state became slightly favourable for diving but couldn’t find. Next attempt will be carried out on 13th early morning at 0500hrs, it is learnt.
