Port Blair, Oct 25: Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) organized an Orientation and Capacity Building workshop on Prevention and Control of HIV & AIDS for youth and the students of Andaman College, Port Blair on 24.10.2018 at Conference Hall of Andaman College. More than 50 students participated. The workshop was an initiative for the formation of Red Ribbon Club (RRC) for the first & second year students.
Dr S. Jaykumar, Principal, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and motivated the youth to enrol and actively participate in the club activities. The Red Ribbon Club is a movement by the Government of India, targeting Youth who are in the age group of 15-29 years. It is a voluntary on-campus intervention programme for students.
The objective for the formation of club is to equip the youth with correct information on HIV/AIDS, encourage them to learn safe and healthy lifestyles, promote voluntary blood donation, build their capacities as peer educators in spreading messages on positive health behaviour, encourage care, concern and support for people living with HIV.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. M. Joy, Project Director, ANACS.
Dr. Jahanara Yasmeen, Deputy Director IEC, ANACS imparted knowledge on the objectives of the formation of RRC and the activities to be continued under the club. She also deliberated extensively on HIV & AIDS through power point presentation.
Dr. N Lakshmi, NSS Programme Officer and Dr. N Jagannath Shastry, Assistant NSS Programme Officer, coordinated the whole programme.
