Port Blair, Sept 02: Crew members of various vessels under the banner of National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) have served the notice of Indefinite Hunger Strike on the issue wages, from 5th September onwards, until the matter is settled.
According to NUSI the wage revision of Foreshore Sector has been signed between Directorate of Shipping Services and National Union of Seafarers of India in the month of August 2018. It was agreed that the entire terms of wage agreement will be implemented and the Seafarers entitled to this wage agreement will be paid fresh revised wages.
The fresh and revised wages of Seafarers were credited in their respective Bank accounts by Accounts Section of Directorate of Shipping Services on 01.09.2018.
Now NUSI has been informed by the Seafarers that the salary credited in their respective bank accounts is much lesser than the salary agreed in the wage agreement. NUSI being the recognized Union has not been informed about the deductions.
In this regard, this NUSI has got agitation notice submitted by all Seafarers from various vessels of Foreshore Sector.
