Port Blair, Aug 07: Andaman and Nicobar Command celebrated World Breastfeeding Week under the aegis of the Defence Wives Welfare Association (DWWA) from 01 August to 07 August 2018 to encourage breastfeeding and improve health of the babies of the Armed Forces Family.
To mark the occasion, seminars were conducted by Surg Lt Cdr Manas R Mishra of INHS Dhanvantari at different locations in ANC. Various aspects like emphasizing the importance of early initiation practice, role of antenatal counselling, myths and facts related to breastfeeding and Baby Friendly Hospital Initiatives (BFHI) were covered in the seminars.
During the week long celebrations, various activities like ‘Nukkad Natak,’ Poster competition, Rangoli making and Quiz were conducted among the ladies of the Command.
A comprehensive health checkup of babies up to two years of age was also undertaken at INHS Dhanvantari, where growth and health assessment apart from screening for diseases like Thyroid, Anaemia etc. was carried out.
