Kadamtala, July 01: Although the NHIDCL has been successful in transforming a few stretches of Andaman Trunk Road into a silky smooth surface, about 80 percent of the ATR is still in horrible shape.
The Andaman Trunk Road stretches between Nilambur Jetty to Gandhi Ghat Jetty and Kadamtala to Rangat areas are perhaps in worst shape, giving nightmares to ATR commuters. Residents of Middle Andaman are now deeply upset with the speed of work by NHIDCL and lack of communication from the NHIDCL or any update about the road construction is causing further disappointment.
Situation is so bad in certain areas that in case of minor rain the ATR transform into small small pools, making it difficult for public to decide, which way to drive. In some places entire road surface is missing. People who have to use their own small car in ATR are facing the maximum burnt of this situation as due to pathetic condition of ATR, they are witnessing frequent breakdown of their vehicles.
Surprisingly all the political parties, despite knowing about this situation are completely silent. BJP is silent because the party is in power, but why parties like Congress, TMC and AAP are silent is still not known.
ATR will certainly become a main election issue in 2019 LS elections but silence of opposition parties indicates that they won’t be able to win even public support on ATR issue because of total silence.
The Administration has failed in this regard too. Public expects that atleast the Administration will play a proactive role in this matter and update public about the propose timeline ATR construction in every area.
