Port Blair, May 25: Teachers of Nirmala School, who have not been paid monthly salary since last three months, today organized a Dharna infornt of Nirmala School.
According to detail altogether 49 staffs in the school, including 44 teachers and five ground staffs have not been paid salary for the month of March, April and May 2018. The Dharna which started at 8.30 AM ended at 3.00 PM.
Nirmala Senior Secondary School is an aided Minority Educational Institution and for this reason, Grant-in-Aid file was sent to the Directorate of Education in the month of March 2018 and there was some objections from the Directorate of Education, Port Blair that Nirmala School is not recognized and school was advised to apply for extension of recognition of the school.
But due to various objections by some officials of Education Department the file of Grant-in-Aid got struck and salary of teachers got delayed.
Teachers who are badly hit by such delay alleged that the school is receiving Grant-in-aid since last 50 years but this is the first time when there is such delay in release of salary for reasons unknown. Many teachers who are financial not very strong and those who are having serious medical issues, are worst hit.
Earlier the Member of Parliament, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray had intervened into this matter and had assured that the pending salary will be released by June 2018, but the salary was not release.
Sources in the school told Andaman Sheekha that later a team of teachers met the Chief Secretary in the evening and highlighted the problems, after which the CS has reportedly assured that the pending salary will be released soon.
