Port Blair, June 05: As if growing number of cases registered under POCSO Act in Andaman and Nicobar Islands were not enough for Andaman that now crime committed in Mainland India are also being registered in local police stations, which are indirectly leaving a negative impact in Andaman’s crime statistics.
As per details, in last three days two different POSCO cases have been registered at P S Pahargaon against two different immigrant labourers, for marrying minor girl and impregnating them.
The crime was actually committed somewhere else in West Bengal villages, where child marriage is a common issue, but after migration of entire family, when these girls come to G B Pant for delivery, Doctors detects that the patients are minor and finally cases of Child Marriage and POCSO are registered against the husband.
As far as two present cases are concerned, while in first case the minor girl came for her first delivery, in second case the minor girl, who came for delivery, already had a four year old kid.
Simple solution to these cases, are to register FIR and send accused to Jail but there is a need to sit calmly and have a brainstorming session on this social issue, which is ultimately leaving the minor girl helpless in a entirely remote territory, with a new born baby.
Such cases are also leaving a negative impact on Andaman’s Crime Statistic, which is far better as compared to other states of Indian. More than police cases, these developments, require attention of Administration, social welfare groups and NGOs.
