Port Blair, May 06: Even after several media reports, public complaints and assurances from the Andaman and Nicobar Police as well as District Administration, unruly wedding processions continues to disrupt traffic in Port Blair city.
Though traffic jams have now become reality in these Islands and the wedding processions have only added to the problem. Some marriage processions in city are making lives miserable for others despite of the fact that the administration has framed a solid set of guidelines couple of years back.
Saturday one such marriage procession caused a massive traffic jam at Phoenix Bay road, while three youths could be seen standing on the top of a vehicle and dancing openly, making mockery of entire Andaman and Nicobar Police Department.
Responsible citizens, who tried to contact the Police Control Room, could not do so as the PCR number of busy for a long time. Traffic congestion on road can have serious consequences like delay in emergency services, delay in reaching jetties, airport and other destinations. The Police Department must take immediate action against such unruly marriage processions.
