Port Blair, July 07: Lt. Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM today visited the historic gallows at Viper island along with the members of the State Heritage Committee and senior officers of the Administration.
Taking stock of the present condition of the gallows and the guard house at the Viper Island, the Lt. Governor directed that the restoration work of these heritage buildings should be taken up on top priority. The existing structure is in a state of neglect and disrepair. The Lt. Governor directed that the site be properly fenced with proper landscaping and basic amenities like visitors rooms and wastage disposal system provided to attract more tourists to the historic site. APWD, Art and Culture Department and Tourism Department would work together and project will be taken on fast track under the aegis of Tourism Department.
