Port Blair, Jan 29: The Department of Science and Technology Andaman and Nicobar Administration in collaboration with CPR. Environmental Education Centre, Chennai has organized awareness programs at Rangat on Waste Management and its related issues for protection of the islands ecosystem. The main objective of the programs was to sensitize the students and general public about the importance of waste handling and segregation at source, so has to it can be disposed in a scientific manner because at present the collection, segregation and disposal is biggest challenge in management of the wastes.
On 18th & 19 January 2018, painting competition, seminar and lecture for students of Rangat Educational participated. Mr. A. Gopal, Project Officer, CPREEC, Port Blair delivered lecture zone was organized in which 70 students and teachers from GSSS. Rangat, GSSS. Sabari, GSSS. Bakultala, GSS. Nimbutala, GSSS. Swadeshnagar and VKV. Rangat on waste management through Power point presentation to disseminate the information on good waste management practices, provisions under various rules and duty and responsibilities of people. Mrs. Reeta Raghuvanshi, DEO, Rangat was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion she urged to the students to join hands in waste management and make it as a part of their life so as to save the islands ecosystem. She also gave away the prizes and Certificates to the winners of various competitions.
On 19 January 2018 awareness program for PRI, women, Self Help Group members, was organized at Rangat. Mr. Sathesh Kumar Singh, Pradhan, Rangat, Gram Panchayat was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion he appeal the people to segregate the waste at source and to not throw any waste in to the sea. Also try to minimize the plastics in day to day life.
