Port Blair, Oct 29: A Speech Competition was organized by ‘Perveen Charitable Trust’ on the topic ‘Cancer: Causes, Outcomes and Prevention in A&N Islands’ in association with Unnati and Carmel Senior Secondary School at Carmel School Auditorium. Perveen Charitable Trust, a voluntary organisation whose foremost objective is Breast Cancer Awareness among Islanders held this programme to mark the ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’. Mrs. Shaima Shamim, Secretary Perveen Charitable Trust welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr. Shahid, HOD, Division of Oncology, G.B. Pant Hospital and briefed about the activities undertaken by the trust in various places and assistance extended for prevention of breast cancer. Dr. Shahid was elated to hear the well- researched speeches by the participants and praised Perveen Charitable Trust for its work in the field of cancer awareness.
The eminent judges were Mrs. Veena Parekh, ex Principal, Model School and Dr. Pooja, Resident, Division of Oncology, G. B. Pant Hospital. The first prize was bagged by Ms. Roshni Argar, Nirmala Senior Secondary School. The second and third prizes went to Ms. Suneha Thakur, Navy Children School and Ms. Tanisha Jugpal, Carmel Senior Secondary School respectively.
The consolation prizes went to Mr. R. Praveen, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya and Ms. Smriti Sridhar, Navy Children School. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Jahanara Yasmin, Trustee, Perveen Charitable Trust with special thanks to Carmel Senior Secondary School for the overall arrangement in their auditorium. The cash prizes and certificates will be awarded to all winners in the valedictory function to be held in November 2017.
