Port Blair, Oct 25: On 24th October a message from Assistant Commissioner Campbell Bay was received by CGHQ at Campbell Bay regarding evacuation of a patient from Afra bay namely Mr. Pilgrim, 32 years old who had sustained severe injuries falling from a tree. The coast guard vessel was immediately deployed along with medical assistant for medical evacuation. On reaching the spot, the basic first aid was administered by the medical assistant which aided in stabilizing the patient who had sustained multiple fractures and was in immense pain. The medical assistant remained in attendance throughout the passage from Afra bay to Campbell Bay despite heavy rains and squally weather. The coast guard vessel on reaching Campbell Bay jetty at around 1945 hrs handed over the patient to PHC Campbell bay for further management. This medical evacuation has again proved the true spirit of coast guard motto “VAYAM RAKSHAMAH”- WE PROTECT.
